A survey revealed that whilst 95% of people in the UK are aware that chemotherapy treatment can cause hair loss, a staggering 82% of people do not know what cold caps are. This has lead to the launch of ‘Cool head, warm heart.’
The aim of this national campaign is to raise the profile of scalp cooling (or cold cap treatment as it is more commonly known) and to make everyone in the UK aware that it is available in NHS and private hospitals throughout the country if requested by patients, nurses or doctors.
All cancer patients should be given the opportunity to choose the treatment that is right for them. The ‘Cool head, warm heart’ campaign aims to make patients aware that scalp cooling is available so they can speak with their consultant about it and then make an informed decision about the treatment they want to receive.
